It is with deepest sadness that we share the sudden and unexpected passing of our sister, Gail Porter on December 30th, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Gail was born in Saint John, NB on April 27th, 1953. She led the pack of six children being the first born to William “Bill” and Marjorie (nee Cunningham) Porter.
Gail spent most of her adult life as a resident of the city’s north end but later relocated to Lorneville where she purchased her first home. Although she worked a few jobs throughout the city, she devoted 26 years of continuous employment at Fundy Linen, where she retired from in 2009.
Gail was a very well-known and loyal friend to so many people. She enjoyed her frequent trips to the bingo hall, where she became part of a “family like” group of wonderful people. There she would often share her quick wit, stories of her adored family and of course a snack or two, while tempting fate and anticipating a jackpot win.
Left to mourn her loss are her five remaining siblings: Lois Smith, Brian Porter, Barry Porter, Kelly (Valmond) Vautour and Sherry St. Pierre; her nieces and nephews: Brenda and Tammy Smith, Amanda and Alison Vautour, William and Gregory St. Pierre and Matthew and Meghan Porter, as well as her last remaining aunt, Dianne Porter and several great nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Bill and Marjorie, Gail was predeceased by her brother-in-law Allan and an infant niece, Crystal.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Saint John Ambulance Services, as well as the nurses and doctors in the Emergency Trauma Room at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Also the kindness that was shown by Gail’s neighbours, especially Melody and Dianne, who looked after her beloved cat, Barney, ran errands and made frequent wellness checks on her. Your kindness was appreciated beyond measure and did not go unnoticed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, (506-646-2424). Family and friends will be received on Thursday, January 8th, 2026 from 12-2 PM. A Funeral Service will follow in the Chapel at 2:00 PM. For those that wish memorial donations to Red Head Strays or Bobby’s Hospice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
