On Friday, May 29, 2026, Frederick “Fred” Gordon Wilson, beloved husband of Margie Wilson (nee. Holly) of Grand Bay-Westfield, passed away at the age of 83. Born in Saint John, NB on February 25, 1943, he was a son of the late Gordon and Marjorie (nee. Murphy) Wilson.
Fred grew up in Morna and graduated from Vocational School. He went on to become a millwright and spent over 25 years working for Rothesay Paper / Irving Paper.
Fred met Margie on the beach in Ketepec, the beginning of a lifelong partnership. They married in 1967 and a few years later welcomed their son, Jim. The family then moved to what was formally known as Westfield, where Fred personally built their home on Mallard Drive.
Fred was a man of many talents and unwavering commitment. When not engaged in his own projects around the house, he could often be found grudgingly helping Margie in the garden or preferably enjoying a round of golf. If something needed fixing, Fred was the one you could count on.
Fred was a man of many talents. He had his pilot’s license, was an avid scuba diver, and a devoted member of the Freemasons and Shriners. Fred’s love for card games was well known; alongside his best friend Eddie, he dominated at 45’s and Cribbage tournaments at the 69 Branch Legion.
Fred’s legacy is one of skill, friendship, and community—a life well lived and fondly remembered.
Fred is survived by his wife Margie, whom he shared 59 beautiful years of marriage with; son Jim Wilson (Angela Campbell); grandsons Gordon and Collin Wilson; brother Ralph (Caren) Wilson; sisters Valerie Wilson and Linda Wilson; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brothers Ronnie and Harold, infant brother Brian, and sister Charlotte.
Although Fred lived at Ridgewood for only five months, the care and compassion shown to him each day left a lasting impression on our family. The staff, doctors, and volunteers ensured he was always comfortable and treated with kindness and dignity. Your compassion will never be forgotten.
