Fred McCluskey

It is with sadness that the family announces the death of Frederick (Fred) Joseph McCluskey on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Born in Saint John on August 11, 1939, Fred was the son of James and Catherine (Comeau) McCluskey. He attended Glen Falls School and Simonds High School.

Fred had a lengthy career in the mechanical trade, including 20 years of owning McCluskey’s Garage, followed by a career as the transmission specialist at Dobson Chrysler Dodge.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Janet (Willis) McCluskey, his son Frederick “Deek” (Debbie) McCluskey and his daughter, Victoria (Lenie) McCluskey, all of Saint John; brothers Jack (Julia) McCluskey and Paul McCluskey (Susie) of Saint John; sisters Amy (Ron) Smart of BC, Lucy Richards of Saint John and Joanne Stone of Ontario; grandsons Bradley (Emily), Ryan (Hannah) and Marcus (Allison) McCluskey; great-grandchildren Landen, Nolan and Lydia; and multiple nieces, nephews and friends. Along with his parents, Fred was predeceased by his brothers Artie, Tommy, Davey, James and Richard, and his sister Violet. 

Fred had many passions, including working on anything with four wheels and an engine; he was a sponsor as well as the mechanic for Robbie Halpin’s popular #3 racecar. He spent many years playing guitar and singing with family and friends, sailing on the St. John and Kennebecasis rivers with his brother Paul, spending time with his beloved extended family and friends, and enjoying the occasional bottle of Moosehead Pale Ale.

A Celebration of Fred's Life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 between the hours of 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. in the Fundy Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
