Frank Mugglestone was an indomitable, one of a kind man. He passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, January 4th, 2019. Frank was born in Swinton, Yorkshire on July 22, 1924; he attended Hemsworth Grammar School. Moving to Bradford at 17, he was observed to have a great skill at Rugby Football, and began to play professionally for Bradford Northern Rugby Club. He joined the RAF, and was sent to the Middle East. After demobilisation, he went to Loughborough University, and on to teach at Dixie Grammar School for 7 years.
In 1958 the family came to Canada. He taught physics, math, and Phys. Ed at Saint John High School, from where he developed a huge interest in his team of boys in Rugby Football, which eventually went on a Rugby Tour in England. Leaving Saint John High School, he became Principal at Hazen White-St. Francis School. From there, he became Principal at the Vocational School, where he proved his mantra “schools are for all students’ benefit.” In 1977, he went to Westisle Consolidated High School, in western Prince Edward Island, which was just newly built. Frank had an indomitable spirit, and always fought for the ‘right’ path, which was truth, honesty and integrity. He had enormous talent for storytelling about incredible events in his own life that he proudly told his enraptured listeners. All his life, he gave help and encouragement to all who were lucky enough to know him. There will never be another with such love and caring kindness for his fellow men.
Frank is survived by his wife Betty, daughters Philippa and Anne, and granddaughter Amanda Bedard. Along with his parents, Frank was predeceased by his grandson, Christopher Bedard.
