With sadness the family announces the passing of Francis (Frank) B. Arthur following a brief illness at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 9, 2024. Frank was born in 1934 to the late Mary Ethel Arthur. While born in Worcester, MA, he lived the greater part of his life in Saint John and Renforth.
A graduate of St. Dunstan’s University High School in Charlottetown, PEI, Frank attended St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS, for a brief time before joining the United States Air Force where he served in the Korean Conflict and in Morocco during the 1950s. He later worked for Lockheed Aircraft Corporation in Burbank and at Edwards Air Force Base, California. In 1960 Frank returned to Saint John to work at the Irving Oil Refinery, retiring in 1992.
He is survived by Dolores (Joseph), his wife of 62 years, his son Frank (Catherine) of Edmonton, AB, and his daughter Michele Bender (Douglas) of Perth, ON, as well as his much loved grandchildren Matthew, Leah and Megan. He was predeceased by his son Gerald (2016), his infant daughter Catherine Louisa (1963) and his mother and stepfather Ethel and Gerald McInerney.
Frank was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Rothesay. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion for more than 70 years, enjoyed world travel and was a voracious reader. He was especially fond of anything to do with the Kennebecasis or St. John Rivers and was always up for a trip to St. Martin’s on the Bay of Fundy.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Saint John Regional Hospital and Shannex in Quispamsis for the professional and compassionate care shown to Dad in his last few years. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Frank may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
