It is with broken hearts that the family of Everett William Francis Melanson announces his passing on November 5, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on September 5, 1954, he was the son of the late Everett and Shirley (Gray) Melanson.
Everett, or “Big Ed” as he was known, enjoyed time spent outdoors. He was happy on the waters, especially when he was boating and casting his fishing line. Ed was an avid hunter when he was younger too, and he often found good game around Long Island. Many times he would comment on the deer right in his backyard that seemed to taunt him as they walked through and leisurely ate apples off his trees. His other great love was for his Harley Davidson “bulletproof truck” (as he called it). Ed also worked for many years as a crane operator, most notably with the Saint John dry dock, and with Suncor out west. Everyone that came across Ed was sure to have a good laugh and likely a beer or two. He loved to tell stories about his younger days and he had some great ones to tell that often included Eddie Pike, Bun or Phil who he had great friendships with.
Everett is survived by his partner Grace; children: Rebecca (Dave) and Carl (Michelle); grandchildren: Audrianna, Matthew, Leslie, Ricky, Carlie, Kobi, and Olivia; siblings: Rob (Goldie), Paul (Gina), Bonnie (Al), Dorothy (Joe), Cindy (Chris), and Heather (Rob); as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers David, Peter, Stephen, and Ricky. The family would like to say a special thanks to Mike Jefferies and his family for the years of friendship he had with our Dad. He will be very missed by everyone he knew.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd., Saint John, NB (506-6546-2424). A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2025, from 2 – 4 PM and 6 – 8 PM. A Funeral Service will take place the following day, Monday, November 10, 2025, at 12PM in the Fundy Chapel. For those who wish, donations in memory of Ed can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
