Evelyn Savoie Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Evelyn Jean (Maysfield) Savoie on May 8, 2026, in Hampton, New Brunswick, surrounded by her 3 loving children.  Evelyn was born at home on March 8, 1952, in Pleasant Villa, New Brunswick. It was here that she learned her strong work ethics as well as the value of hard work & dedication while helping on her parents’ farm.

Evelyn had a passion for drawing which showed in her artwork. Evelyn was able to combine her artwork with the quilting skills she acquired from her mother (she may not have enjoyed the quilting part lol), she treasured the one quilt she made featuring her own wildlife drawings as the quilt blocks. She also spent countless hours knitting and loved creating her own patterns for the kids and other family members especially the Mary Maxim sweaters with the intricate designs.  Ultimately she excelled in whatever new craft she decided to try.

As a teenager, Evelyn worked on a large farm in Cambridge-Narrows, NB where she boarded on site with her sister Donna.  Evelyn later moved to Saint John, where she met the love of her life, Lorenzo Savoie, while at a bingo hall. They quickly discovered they had many shared interests, including badminton, the outdoors, bowling and passion for camping. And so their relationship began…

Evelyn & Lorenzo were married in April 1975. During what was said to be the worst storm of the year, no weather was going to stop these lovebirds and they recently celebrated their 51st anniversary together.  Evelyn loved being present for her 3 children, whether it was a ride to an activity, or as a volunteer supporting her children’s interests and activities. She was always up to the task. Evelyn became a scout leader. She loved passing on her love of the outdoors to the next generation of kids. Creating lasting memories, friendships while attending many Scouting events and a Jamboree. She was known for her kindness and patience, but loved for her sense of humour and willingness to help others.

Camping was one of Evelyn’s greatest joys. Over the years, the family enjoyed many summers together at various campgrounds, where she helped instill a lifelong love of camping in her 3 children. No matter where she went, Evelyn made friends easily with her quick wit and beautiful smile. During summers at the campground, she became an avid horseshoe competitor, winning many competitions and proudly embracing her competitive spirit. Evelyn worked for many years at Mother Nature’s in Saint John. Her hard work and dedication made Evelyn a valued and well respected employee. In her later years, she took up golf with Lorenzo and, as with everything she pursued, she quickly excelled at the sport.

Sadly, Evelyn suffered a stroke in her early 50s, but through determination and sheer willpower, she overcame many of the challenges she faced, including learning again how to peel potatoes and carrots as well as create beautiful crafts with beads. She also cherished spending time in Pleasant Villa with her mother, where they enjoyed card games, puzzles, and each other’s company.

Evelyn suffered another series of mini strokes, which left her weaker and more unstable. She ended up falling a few times and spent nearly a year at Ridgewood.  She later moved to the Snow Centre, where she resided until her passing.  Many will remember Evelyn there scooting through out the halls with her colourful hats and teddy bears tucked beside her in her wheelchair, always bringing smiles to those around her.

Evelyn is survived by her devoted husband, Lorenzo; her daughter Karen (Joe); her sons Jean-Guy (Karen) and Lorenzo Jr. (Mindy); as well as her cherished grandchildren Alexis, Zach and Gavin and her great-grand children Kyla and Maria.  She also leaves behind her siblings Russell (Boni), Doug (Marg), and Tracey (Michel), Her Sister in law Sharon and her Brother in law George. along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.  She is predeceased by her Parents, her sister Donna and her brother Stephen.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Snow Centre for the care and compassion shown to Evelyn during her time there.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506-646-2424).  There will be no funeral service at this time. A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held at a later date. For those wishing to make a donation in Evelyn’s memory, the family kindly asks that you consider the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
