Evelyn (Anthony) Tidd Obituary

It is with sadness but appreciation for a long life, well lived, that we announce the passing of Evelyn Maud (Lilly) (Anthony) Tidd on July 9, 2020 at Shannex, Embassy Hall.  Evelyn was born in St. John’s, NL on September 3, 1925 to the late Eli and Ida (Priddle) Lilly and was the loving wife of the late husband, Horace Tidd.

Evelyn worked as a telephone operator when she still resided in Newfoundland, and then upon moving to Saint John worked in New Systems Laundry Service.  As pioneers they moved to Sherbrooke, Quebec and the boomtown of Elliot Lake, Ontario.  As a young widow, with her three children she returned to Saint John to be near her sisters. She was a server at Dairy Queen for 17 years.

Evelyn was an active member of Waterloo Baptist Church and then Cornerstone Baptist Church and always sat in the back pew, giggling with her sister, Marge, before and after service.   She was quiet when she was at church, but certainly not known for it outside of church.  Evelyn was a very proud Newfoundlander.  She brought her children up to Newfoundland traditions and loved to cook for the kids in a way reminiscent of her heritage.  She loved camping in her trailer in the summers at Oak Bay.  She was the kind of person who always asked you questions about you, rather than talking about herself.  She was very kind and an unselfish and caring woman.  She was very family oriented.  She was incredibly close to her sister, Marge.  She lived a full life, but it is never long enough.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children, Glendon (Darlene M) Anthony, Karen Cooper and daughter-in-law, Dorinda; three adored grandchildren, Kristina, Shaleigh and Ron; two great grandchildren, Trenton and Sophia; sister, Marjorie Denton as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins and special friends, Bill and Maureen Adamson.

In addition to her husband Horace, she was predeceased by her first husband, Ronald Allison Anthony; son, Gary Anthony; brothers, Wilson and Reginald Lilly; sisters, Gwen (Jim) Bartlett, Nina (Cyril) Fraize, Jean (Leonard) Gilbert and Hilda (James) McCollum.

Evelyn’s family would like to thank Dr Craig, nurses and staff of Embassy Hall for their care and compassion shown to Evelyn in her time there. Special thanks to her daughter-in-law, Darlene M. Anthony, for all the kindness you have shown since you became part of her family.  You were very special to her.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) where visitation will be held on Monday from 11am-1pm.  Staff will be available at the main entrance of the funeral home to assist guests with social distancing measures when they arrive.  As a result of COVID restrictions, a private family funeral service will be celebrated following the visitation for invited guests only.  If you would like to be invited to the funeral, please contact Glenn or Karen to add your name to the list.  For those who wish, donations in her memory to the Alzheimer Foundation or to Parkinson Canada would be appreciated by her family.
