Smith, Evan Douglas 1942-2024
While we celebrate a life well lived, we grieve for the passing of Evan Smith who passed away peacefully on July 17, 2024, at Bobby’s Hospice, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Saint John on March 5, 1942, he was the son of the late William and Anne (Evans) Smith and the loving husband of 34 years to his wife, Linda.
Evan was well known as the manager of the Grand Bay Drive-In Theatre for over twenty-five years. He also was the manager of the Paramount Theatre, The Plaza Theatre and the Hi-Way Drive-In over the years. He finished his working life as a manager for Can Park Services for 20 years. He was a Trouble Shooter for Famous Players and travelled to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland for work. He also worked as a projectionist at various theatres too.
Evan was an avid bird watcher and wildlife photographer.
Along with his loving wife, Linda, he leaves three sons, Joseph (Denise), Lawrence, and Todd (Lynn); 6 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was the last member of his immediate family, having been an only child.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424) where visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 23 from 2-6pm. A Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday, July 24 at 11am from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, memorial donations in Evan’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family.
