Elmer Glendenning Obituary

With heavy hearts, the family of Elmer Harold Glendenning announces his passing on April 15, 2026, at Turnbull Nursing Home.

Born in Bathurst, New Brunswick, on August 9, 1943, Elmer was the beloved son of the late Guy and Verna (Daley) Glendenning.

Elmer will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, April Glendenning (Colin Perry), and his son, Colin Glendenning. He is also survived by his siblings, Chester Glendenning, Hazel Miller (Hanson), Dora Mae Knowles (Laurie), Chipman Glendenning (Julia Morris) ; and the mother of his children, Joy Glendenning. Elmer also leaves behind several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Elmer dedicated over 30 years of his career as a machinist in the Faculty Shop at UNB Fredericton. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, especially when it came to making maple syrup at the family homestead in Bathurst and Keswick Ridge. Elmer was known to his many nieces and nephews as the “Candy Man”. A proud and devoted member of the Keswick Ridge Fire Department, Elmer served as Fire Chief for many years, contributing greatly to his community.

He had a lifelong love of Ford Mustangs—indeed, for Elmer, Ford was the only vehicle on the road. He also had a special fondness for cats, particularly his companion at Turnbull, “Mr. Crouton,” with whom he could often be found resting peacefully.

Elmer was well known throughout the Keswick Ridge community, where he built his home and raised his family. Each year, he carried on a cherished tradition—taking lobster orders, traveling to Baie-Sainte-Anne to pick up hundreds of pounds, and returning to share them with friends and neighbours.

Aside from Elmer's parents he was predeceased by his sister Dorothy Knowles and sister-in-law Judy Glendenning

The family would like to send out a special thank you to the staff at Turnbull Nursing Home for the care they provided to Elmer.
