Elizabeth "Betty" Kiervin Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” Kercilla Kiervin It is with both sadness and gratitude for a life well lived that the family of Elizabeth (Betty) Kercilla (Duffy) Kiervin announce her peaceful passing, which occurred on March 16th in Saint John, New Brunswick. Born in Miramichi, New Brunswick, on December 27, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Elizabeth and Ernest Duffy.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Edward Kiervin (1992), along with her siblings Alvin (Barb), William (Theresa), Margaret Lingley (Jim), Barbara Cortes (Joseph), and Elgina Cortes (Herman), several nephews, and her daughter-in-law Tammy Hachey.

She is survived by her seven children: Sherry (Dave), Edward (Teresa), Tanya, Wade (Arlene), Cathy, Greg, and Darren (Darlene).

She will also be lovingly remembered by her 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Betty, lovingly known as Mom and Nin, lived a full and active life. Betty’s career was with Eastern Foods, where she worked at several locations including the Airport Restaurant, Simonds High School, and finished her career in 1992 at the (Old) Centracare in Simms Corner. After retiring, she enjoyed many wonderful years filled with travelling and volunteering. She enjoyed bus tours to places such as Nashville, Boston, and New York, just to name a few.

Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a devoted member of Forest Hills Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended Sunday services. During the week she participated in many activities including 50+ groups, widows groups, and volunteering in the kitchen during Vacation Bible School. She was also a long-time member of the Simonds Lioness Club, helping run the Tuesday night bingos, along with many other activities. Betty volunteered with Meals on Wheels and enjoyed attending the mall walking group.

She enjoyed watching her daytime shows, especially The Price is Right, and in the evenings she could be found watching the news and never missing Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

Betty loved her family deeply, and time spent together meant everything to her. Gathering everyone together in her home for big family meals was her favourite. Christmas at Mom’s house was especially special, and those memories are still often talked about by her grandchildren. She also enjoyed trips home to the Miramichi every summer, and welcoming family from there to visit.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff of Rocmaura Nursing Home for the love and care shown to Mom over the past three and a half years.
