Eldon Ferris Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Eldon George Ferris announces his passing, which occurred on March 22, 2026, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, with his family by his side.

Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, on August 19, 1943, Eldon was the son of the late Eldon and Alice Ferris of Garnett Settlement, NB. He was the beloved husband of the late Betty Ferris.

Eldon dedicated 33 years of service to the City of Saint John Works Department before retiring in 2006. From a young age, he had a passion for racehorses and spent many years traveling far and wide in pursuit of this love.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather (“Papa”), great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Eldon was the pillar of his family. He cherished long drives with his “honey bun,” listening to country music, and spending time with loved ones. He especially enjoyed family meals and treating others to lobster rolls at Spinney’s in St. Martins.

Eldon also held a special place in his heart for the Dialysis Unit team at the Saint John Regional Hospital. His family extends their sincere gratitude for the 23 years of care, compassion, and kindness they provided.

Eldon is survived by his daughter Cheryl MacDonald (Kevin), son Randy MacDonald (Nicole), both of Saint John, and daughter-in-law Sherri MacLeod of Ottawa, ON. He is also survived by his brother Norman (Jerri) Rowley; brother-in-law Brad Cameron; grandchildren Marie (Brandon), Jenny (Keith), Cory (Kimbra), Kelsie (Will), Morgan (Chad), Maria (Dylan), and Dylan (Carrie); and 13 great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy and a sparkle to his eyes. He will also be missed by several nieces and nephews, his special friend Mary (Alvin) of Saint John, his beloved feline companion Ringo “boy,” his close City Works friends, and many other dear friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Eldon was predeceased by his son Rusty, brothers Fred (Melvine) and Benny (Gloria), and his sister Ruth.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 29, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed immediately by a funeral service in the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel. A reception will follow. Interment at Ocean View Memorial Gardens will take place at a later date.

Donations in Eldon’s memory may be made to the Dialysis Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital or the Children’s Wish Foundation.
