Elaine Baxter Obituary

It is with broken hearts but appreciation for a long life well lived that the family of Elaine Baxter, beloved wife of the late Ernest “Ernie” Baxter, announces her passing on June 13, 2026, at the Peter Lougheed Hospital, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in St. Martins on December 22, 1939, she was the daughter of the late William “Bill” and Alfreda (Hopey) Holland.

Elaine spent most of her working life in the classroom, teaching Grade 3 and eventually retiring from her career in Oromocto. As a military wife, she and Ernie moved often over the years, and Elaine taught in a number of different places along the way, making the most of every new community they called home. When she wasn't teaching, Elaine knew how to enjoy life's simple pleasures. She was an avid reader, loved a good game of bingo or cards, and never passed up an opportunity to sit in the sunshine. Every winter, she and Ernie headed to Florida, trading snow for warmer days and plenty of time outdoors. The two also enjoyed spending weekends at flea markets, where they would set up a table together—Ernie chatting with everyone who stopped by while Elaine took it all in. Elaine also took pride in her appearance and was rarely seen without looking her best. She loved getting dressed up and never shied away from a little sparkle, believing there was always room for a touch of glitter. Elaine especially loved the holidays. She enjoyed decorating for every occasion, but what mattered most to her was having family together. Whether gathered around a holiday table, enjoying a game of cards, or simply spending time together, those moments were what she treasured most.

Elaine is survived by her son Curtis (Karyn) Baxter, and daughter Katrina Baxter Comeau; grandchildren: Adam Ross, William (Michelle) Baxter, Tammy (Scott) Piper, Rochelle (Daniel) Comeau, and Joshua (Mackayla) Comello; great grandchildren: Aubrey Ross, Ryder Piper, and Cash Piper; sisters Beverly Smith and Billie Jo (Don) Whyte; as well as several nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Ernie, and her parents Bill and Alfreda.
