It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts the family of Eileen Hannah announce her passing which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday June 22, 2021. Born in Wolverhampton, England July 3rd, 1944 to the late Ellen Chipman (Howell) and Eric Bailey. Eileen immigrated to Canada with her mother at the early age of 4. They arrived at Pier 21 in Halifax on the “RMS Aquitania”, a British ocean liner, on October 26 of 1948. She grew up on Greenwood Lane (Mosquito Lane) and raised her family in the same place. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years before working at the Saint John Regional Hospital, where she was a ward clerk for 30 years. Eileen was a breast cancer survivor and a member of the “Breasts Ahoy” dragon boat team for several years. She enjoyed travelling with family and friends, writing poetry, hiking, swimming in the lake, knitting and baking. She loved horses and horseracing. She attended All Saints Anglican Church for many years. When it closed, she attended St. Peters Anglican Church in Upham and Christ Church Anglican in Bloomfield. Eileen was the heart of her family. She never missed a family event until her health prevented her from doing so. She was a devoted wife, mother, nanny, great-nanny, sister and friend. Those who knew and loved her will miss her forever.
Eileen is survived by her loving husband of over 58 years, Joseph Hannah of Saint John; daughters Eileen Hannah (Jamie Miller) of Saint John, Deborah Hannah-Bertin (Glenn Bertin) of Grove Hill, Theresa Hughes (Sundar Singh) of Saint John; son Michael Hannah (Yasuhiro Saito “Yacchan”) of Vancouver, BC; and Joanne Stackhouse (Greg) of Grand Manan; brother Philip Chipman (Linda) of Darlings Island; brother-in-law James Hannah, sister-in-law Patsy Hannah; son-in-law Danny Hughes; 14 grandchildren Tim (Alexis), Michelle (Mitchell), Brittany (AJ), Jordan, Carissa (Devon), Eric, Corey, Connor, Logan, Sean, Jonathan, Jeffrey, Julianne and Jared; 6 great-grandchildren Taylor, Danica, Mac, Fenwick, Harlin, Cecilia and baby girl Patterson (due August 2021); lifelong best friend Gail Scott; special cousins the Robinsons; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Along with her parents, Eileen was predeceased by her sisters Gloria McLennan and Marion Chipman; sisters-in-law Florence McLaughlin and Leona Hannah.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). Visitation will be held from Fundy Funeral Home on Sunday June 27th from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Monday June 28th at 11:00 a.m. Due to public health regulations seating is limited.
