Edythe "Bingie" Baxter Obituary

Mary Edythe "Bingie" Baxter (Walton), passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 28th, 2023, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in 1932 she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Louisa (Sheldrick) Walton from Clifton Royal, New Brunswick. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert (Bob) Baxter; son, Daniel and wife Sheila Baxter; sister, Anne and husband Ken Miller. She was also predeceased by her sisters-in-law Phyllis (Ed) Walker, Louise (Ron) MacCullum; brothers-in-law Nelson, Harry, John, Winnie and Holly (Ernie) Baxter.

Bingie is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Diane) Baxter and Roger Baxter from Alberta; and daughter, Robyn Baxter (Stephen Smith) in Clifton Royal, New Brunswick. She is also survived by her sister, Eleanor (James) Green in Saint John; brother Donnie (Liz) Walton in Sussex; sisters-in-law, Jean Baxter in Riverview and Hannaelore Baxter in BC.; as well as her grandchildren, Rob (Amanda) Laverdure in BC, Jessica Baxter (Doug Whittaker) from Rothesay, Eric Baxter in BC, Rob Baxter and Alex Baxter in AB; along with several neices and nephews whom she treasured.

Bingie began her career teaching in a one room schoolhouse in Milkish Creek, NB., on the Kingston Peninsula but shortly thereafter graduated from Modern Business College, served in the Canadian Army Reserves and worked in several uptown Saint John businesses.

Marrying in 1955 at Clifton All Saints Anglican Church, Bingie and Bob spent their weekends laughing and dancing with friends and family on the Kingston Peninsula and in the Saint John area. Following a few years in PEI, Bingie and Bob moved back to New Brunswick where they operated several Sundrie/Convenient stores moving often throughout the province while raising their four children. After settling back in the Saint John area, Bingie and her husband purchased and renovated rental buildings while also welcoming grandchildren into their lives. Bingie enjoyed 62 years of marriage with many years of large family suppers and annual celebrations with often four generations being present as family members were blessed with good health and longevity.

Bingie will be well remembered for being a loving and supportive daughter, niece, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed gardening and spent much of her time baking and cooking as a way of supporting and sharing her love for those around her and the organizations that were important to her. Edythe volunteered with The Canadian Cancer Society, St. Margaret's Anglican Church, and Holy Trinity Parish Hammond River Church.
