Born at Fredericton NB on September 20, 1952, he was the son of the late Richard (Dick) and Elizabeth (Betty Newlands) Sherwood, the eldest of four siblings. He died at the Saint John Regional Hospital on May 7, 2026. Ed attended Simonds High School, the NS Agricultural College (dean’s list) as well as UNBSJ but was largely self-taught, a lifelong learner. Good books and TV learning
channels were part of his daily regime. For many years he ran his own house painting business.
Of passions he had many: his family most of all; Harley-Davidsons and an open road; the New York Yankees; animals; riding on trains; his Loyalist and Scottish heritage; wine gums, black licorice, and bubblegum ice cream. Ed owned a small plot of land in Scotland and got a kick out of being a laird. He is survived by siblings Beth, Richard (Pauline) and Christina (David) Higgins; uncle
Ackie; aunts Grace, Carol, Donna, Sheila and Louise; nephews Matt (Kris), Jacob, Luke (Rhoda), Nathan (Marissa), Colin (Arinn), and Christopher (Emily); nieces Sabrina (Randy) and Heather (Alex); grand nieces Lily and Ella; grand nephews AJ, Calvin, Mikko and Teddy. Two cats will miss his devotion to them. Ed had a wide network of friends and relatives.
The family would like to thank Dr. Bridget Tutschka, Extra-mural, Pulse (Mary), Kindred Home Care, and the friendly community of 155 Mystery Lake Dr.
