Edward Harry Downey

It is with deepest sadness that we are announcing the passing of Edward Harry Downey who passed away peacefully on Dec 23, 2025 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Born Aug 15,1946 in Saint John, NB he was the son of the late Edward and Jean Downey.

Ed was a loving and devoted husband of 59 years to his wife Patricia (Patsy), a devoted father to Troy (Charlene), Trevor (Lindsay), Tonia (Bob) and a proud grandfather to Kayla, Sarah, Julia, Jillian, Colin, Erika, and Matthew. Ed is survived by his brother Donnie Downey, and sisters Helen Lockhart and Frances Brideau.

Ed worked at the Irving Pulp and Paper Mill for over 35 years, dedicating himself to providing for his family.

In his early years, Ed cherished time spent at the hockey rinks and ball fields, supporting his children in all of their activities. On weekends it was his love of country music and dancing and the occasional hunting trip to the camp that he enjoyed so much.
In later years, he found immense joy in attending his grandchildren’s events, cheering them on, and sharing happy moments with his family.

An upcoming celebration of life will be held at the daughter Tonia’s home in Quispamsis,  on January 4th, 2026, from 2-5pm . He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society in his memory.
