Edna Marion (Hennessy) Steele, wife of the late Maurice Steele, passed away on Saturday, November 15th, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on December 19th, 1933, in St. Martins, NB, she is the daughter of the late Leaman and Olive (Osborne) Hennessy. Edna graduated from St. Martins Superior High School and attended Modern Business College. She worked at the old General Hospital in the x-ray department, Saint John News Co. and The Canadian Red Cross Society. She retired in December 1993.
Edna was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church in St. Martins, NB, until it closed, then attended The Church of Christ The King, Saint John, NB. Edna loved to dance, play cribbage, travel and along with Maurice, enjoyed many trips across Canada and USA. They enjoyed many years at their cottage in Lower Cambridge, NB.
Edna is survived by her daughters Debra Lavoy (George), Cheryl Steele, Gwenda Holland (Donald), Dawn Brookins, 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Edna was predeceased by her son John, brother John Hennessy, sister Roberta Gillcrist and sons-in-law Johnny Brookins and Donald Jones.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424) with visitation being held on Thursday, November 20th from 2 to 6 p.m. A Memorial Service will take place in the Fundy chapel on Friday, November 21st at 11 a.m. followed by an interment at Mosher Hill Cemetery. Donations in memory of Edna may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
