It is with sadness, but a sense of peace for a long life, well lived, that we announce the peaceful passing of Edna M. (Johnson) Judge on October 16, 2025, at Bobby's Hospice, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 17, 1926, in Niagara Falls, NY, to the late William and Edna (Bowes) Johnson and was the loving wife to her late husband, Robert Dawson Judge.
Edna was born in the days of olde. She often reminisced those days of streetcars and horse drawn wagons. Her playground was Market Slip. They lived in a house located near the Red Rose Tea Factory.
They eventually moved to Broadview Avenue where she attended school. It was there that she met her childhood sweetheart, Bob Judge. They married soon after Bob returned home from WWII and started a family.
Edna was the epitome of "Old School Homemaker and Stay Home Mom." She dedicated her days to the care of her children and husband. Her son Steve recalls a home filled with educational toys, Meccano sets, how-to books and the like: a stimulating environment for growing minds.
Her parenting did not end once her sons were adults. Edna was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother. "Nan" was there for them throughout their lives with an unwavering, unconditional love.
Edna had a very creative side to her. It was no exaggeration to say she was a "seamstress extraordinaire." She made all her children's clothes. Her little house was filled with material of every type and color imaginable, plus a noisy, busy sewing machine.
Edna also loved home decorating. It was not uncommon for Bob to come home from work to find a wall missing and plans to rearrange a room. Edna had a flare for fashion and beauty. She was always dressed in style, along with the latest "do." She took great pride in her personal appearance.
Although Edna was born in days gone by, she was also a modern woman. She embraced technology with open arms. With the help of her sons, she enjoyed years of internet and computer access. She was truly a unique individual, a mix of the old and the new.
Edna was a member of the Saint John Sea Belles for many years. This was her social life outside of the home. She enjoyed the camaraderie, along with all the travel and social events.
She was survived by her sons, Stephen (Susan McKeon), David (Shelley Forgey) and Billy (Christine Judge); her grandchildren, Alex and Aaron (Melinda); Connie Sherwood (whom she loved like a daughter); great grandchildren, Alexander Sherwood, Cassidy Judge and Hannah Levesque; nieces, Carol Craig and Sybil Till. Edna was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Connie and Susan for all the care and assistance provided to Edna over the last few years. You truly were wonderful friends to her. Also, a special acknowledgment to Melinda for stepping in while Connie was convalescing. We could not have done it without you.
Also, a special thank you to Judy Bursey RN/VON. Edna developed a special bond with Judy over the years and looked forward to her regular visits.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506 646-2424). In keeping with Edna's wishes, no services will be held. For those who wish, memorial donations in her memory made to Bobby's Hospice would be appreciated by her family.
