Dr. Janice Townson Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dr. Janice Ruth (Townsend) Townson on March 21, 2023.  Born in New Glasgow, NS, on December 11, 1982, she was the daughter of Stephen and Lillianne (Branscombe) Townsend.

Janice moved to Fall River, NS where she graduated from Charles P. Allen High School in 2000.  She knew at an early age that she wanted to pursue a career in medicine and achieved a BSc.H. from Acadia University, followed by a Master degree and medical school at Dalhousie University.  Dr. Townson completed her medical residency in Saint John, where she would begin her career as a Family Physician in 2016.  Janice chose Saint John for the small community feel as she strove to provide the one-on-one care that she felt everyone deserved.  Janice was admired and respected by both her patients and colleagues, winning the First Five Years of Family Practice Award from the New Brunswick College of Family Physicians in 2020.

While in medical school, she met Zac, the love of her life.  They immediately bonded over their love of the outdoors, adventure, and traveling the world.  She was positively giddy when he proposed in 2012, and even more so when they married on a rainy, but perfect June afternoon the following year.  They were blessed shortly thereafter with the birth of their daughter Liliana, and their son Ryan, fulfilling Janice’s dream of becoming a mother.

Spending time with her family was what mattered most to Janice.  She made a point of attending every family gathering or event, and she genuinely looked forward to connecting with her loved ones and making memories.  She, Zac, and their children took multiple vacations and camping trips, instilling the importance of quality family time.  She also enjoyed hiking and vacationing with her mother, and loved the special bond they had.

Janice built and maintained relationships from every stage of her life and fostered those relationships with care and passion.  She loved deeply, and made a lasting impact on everyone she met with her beautiful smile and positive energy.

In addition to her parents, Stephen and Lillianne, her loving husband, Zac, and her adored children, Liliana and Ryan, she is also survived by her grandmother, Grace (Steeves) Branscombe; her half-sister, Michelle; many cousins and extended family members; and  countless friends.  She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, and her maternal grandfather, Everett Branscombe.
