Doris Connell Obituary

It is with heavy hearts the family of Doris Connell (Curran) announce her passing, which occurred peacefully on May 13, 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital with her family by her side. Born on Aug 26, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Emanuel and Catherine Gallant.

She resided for many years in Central Greenwich, NB, was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #87, Central Greenwich Gems and Oak Point Anglican Church. She loved singing, dancing, clogging and was a member of Saint John Seabells Choir. In recent years, she enjoyed painting, playing 45’s at the Browns Flat Hall and doing crossword puzzles. But most of all, her greatest joy was spending time with her family, her large family dinners and her nightly glass of red wine.

Doris is survived by her daughters Lynda Curran-Scott, Susan (Austin) Sutton, Wendy (David) Laird, Judy (Peter) Walker, Mary (Greg) Elderkin, Joanne (Ben) St. Croix, Traci (Wayne Myers) Curran and her son Michael (Giselle St. Pierre) Curran. She was known as Nan to 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Doris is also survived by sisters Marguerite MacLeod and Esther McGraw; brothers Albert (Marie) Gallant and Leo (Eleanor) Gallant; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.

Besides her parents, Doris was predeceased by her first husband Walter M. Curran, her son Walter N. Curran, both of Saint John, her second husband Murray Connell of Public Landing, her son-in-law Dwight Thompson of Central Greenwich; brothers Albert & Arthur; sisters Agnes Jaillet, Myrtle Jaillet, Gertrude Morrison, Bertha Paisley, Lorraine Ward and Theresa Blanchard.

We were blessed to have her in our lives for 91 years. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

It is with great gratitude from the family, we would like to thank her special friend and caregiver Karen Ring of Grand Bay-Westfield for the special time they spent together, going for drives, having an ice cream, sharing laughs and memories.

Special thanks for the care given by the staff of Serenity Cove Special Care Home in Woodmans Point during the 2 years she resided there.

We would also like to thank the staff of the SJRH Palliative Care Unit for their care.
