Dora “Dot” Cornford

With heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived, the family of Dora (Dot) Cornford announces her peaceful passing on November 3rd at the remarkable age of 105.

Born in Dawson Settlement, NB, on March 9th, 1918, Dot was the daughter of the late Audbur and Helen (Newcomb) Jonah.

In 1938, Dot relocated to Saint John, where fate introduced her to George. The couple made their home on Bently St. for many years, later choosing to retire in the village of Renforth.

Dot's spirit of giving led her to volunteer with the Hospital Auxiliary, and her faith kept her actively involved with her church. A travel lover, Dot also had a gift for crafting, keeping her hands busy with rug hooking and quilting. Throughout her life, she shared her home with many beloved pets and had a distinct fondness for the colour purple.

She leaves cherished memories with her daughter-in-law, Glenna Cornford; granddaughter, Alison Cornford-Matheson (Andrew); brother, Herman Jonah (Betty); cousin, Marjorie Kingston; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Dot was reunited in passing with her husband, George; treasured son, Derek; brother, Blair Jonah (Emma); sisters, Audrey Day (Frank) and Lois Irving (Bill); and her nephew, Michael Irving.

The family extends their deepest appreciation to Maple House, Loch Lomond Village's dedicated staff, for their unwavering compassion and care over the past four years.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd., Saint John, NB (506-646-2424). A Funeral Service celebrating Dot’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, in St. James the Less Church, 1760 Rothesay Rd, Rothesay, at 11:00AM. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In Dot's memory, donations can be made to the Loch Lomond Village Foundation or a charity of one's choosing.
