Donald J. Pitre

It is with great sadness that the family of Donald (Don) Joseph Pitre, announce that he passed away peacefully on Friday, August 27, 2021 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  Don was the son of Zelia (Mary) Peters and the late John Baptiste Peters.  He was born at the General Hospital on September 24, 1960.

Don will be sadly missed by his mother, and sisters Patricia Craft (Al Gagnon), Bernice Mercer (Patrick), Lucille “Lou” Pitre Ouellette (Morel), Carolanne “Kid” Shipstone (Tim) and step-sister Donna Knight (Edward).  He is also survived by nephews Shane (Liza), Tim (Terri), Dan (Kathleen) and Matthew; niece Jessica; as well as grand-nieces Michaela, Hope and Hailie.

He was predeceased by his father John Peters and stepmother Evelyn Peters.

Until his illness, Don spent most of his working career in the food service business and had worked in or oversaw various restaurant kitchens in Saint John, Halifax and Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Don’s family would like to thank the healthcare professionals who have been looking after him for the past several years.  A special thank you to Al Gagnon who was always there when Don needed a drive for appointments, etc.  Don stayed strong to the very end, more worried about how his family was doing than himself.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424).  As per Don’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  There will be no visitation or service.  A private family memorial will be held at a later date.  For those who wish, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
