Donald Robert Nicol

It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Robert Nicol, loving husband of 65 years to Mary (Sproul) Nicol, wish to announce his passing which occurred at his residence on January 6, 2022, surrounded by his family. Born in Saint John, NB, on November 23, 1931, he was the son of the late Robert and Grace (Carle) Nicol.

He was employed with CN for almost 36 years, retiring in 1989. 

Besides his wife he is survived by his sons; Robert ‘Jake’ and Peter (Rose), daughters; Pam Brayley-Healey and Sue McDonald (Ed), brothers; Rev. Carl (Anne) and Jack (Linda), sister Roberta (Murray) Bowser, brothers-in-law; Bruce, Albert, John (Colleen), Fred (Val), Murray (Carla), Roy (Brenda) and Doug and sisters-in-law; Janet, Jane, Betty (Jack), Marg and Marie, grandchildren; Sara (Liam), Andrew, Amanda (Jeff), Josh (Kristy), Joey (Ashley), John (Megan) and Nicole, great-grandchildren; Sunny, Frankie, Addy, Lincoln, Gabby, Wyatt and Archer, along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his infant son Anthony, sisters; Christine Morrill and Jean Marr, brothers-in-law; Francis and Lennie and sisters-in-law; Jean, Dorothy, and Deena. 

The family would like to thank the Extra Mural nurses, Saint John Regional Hospital Emergency Dept. and the staff on 3C South for their outstanding care and kindness. They would also like to thank the neighbors, friends and family for all of their help, meals and love during this difficult time.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (646-2424). Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at the funeral home from 2-4pm followed by cremation.  The funeral service will be held at the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. with interment to take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, seating is limited. Please call 506-646-2424 to RSVP for the service.
