Donald Fitzpatrick Obituary

It is with broken hearts that the family of Donald Percy Fitzpatrick, dearly beloved husband of Valerie (Lidstone) Fitzpatrick, announce his passing which occurred on May 17, 2022 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on June 29, 1948, he was the son of the late Ralph and Marie (Stopp) Fitzpatrick.

Don was the 4th born of the Fitzpatrick kids and we could not have asked for a more wonderful brother. Always even-tempered (not easy in a family of 10), loving and, above all else, always ready to help when needed. He was also a great uncle to his many nieces and nephews.

Don was educated at Princess Elizabeth School (grades 1-9), and Saint John Vocational High School, graduating in 1966.He also achieved his CPA,CMA designation. During his lifetime he was employed with Saint John Shipbuilding, the Rocca Group, and the Family Shoe Shoppes before a well-earned retirement.

Don’s search for a mate-for-life ended at a very young age once he met Valerie during high school years and they have been inseparable ever since. They married in 1971 and enjoyed a loving and devoted life together, with their adored canine companions over the years.

He had a passion for sailing and enjoyed day-sailing with Val or racing - either aboard their Allegro or crewing with other buddies at Rothesay Yacht Club. He also kept active playing golf and hockey.

Don – the loyal, devoted husband, brother, uncle and friend -will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Along with his loving wife Valerie, he is survived by his brothers William (Joanne), Brian (Corinne), Raymond (Susan), Stephen (Mary) and Kevin (Holly), his sisters Joan Chenier and Debbie Fitzpatrick, his sister-in-law Loretta Mahaffey, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, mother and father in law, brother Robert and his wife Kay (O’Connor) Fitzpatrick, sister Nancy Harris, niece Anne-Marie Harris and brothers-in-law Robert Chenier and Glen Lidstone.
