It is with sadness that the family of David James Fleming announces his passing which occurred on March 21, 2023, at the Carlton Kirk Nursing Home. Born in Sheffield, England on May 8, 1934, he was the son of the late James and Joan (Atkinson) Fleming.
David is survived by his loving wife of over 68 years, June (Platt) Fleming, son Ian Fleming of Vancouver, BC, daughters Debra Reynolds of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Cris Spurlock of Norfolk Virginia, along with 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
David and June travelled from Wales in 1981 on Holiday to Saint John, NB. David was a Chief Marine Engineer, while visiting Saint John, he received a job offer with Irving that he could not refuse. They packed up their family and made the move to Saint John. David then transitioned into a position with Balder Offshore, later retiring at the age of 60. He was very proud to receive two Awards for saving the ship on two different occasions. He travelled all around the world, spending time in Australia, New Zealand, and Africa just to name a few. His favorite trips were always the ones to Jamacia.
During retirement, David and June both enjoyed their time together. David lived a wonderful life that was full of amazing experiences. He will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Helen Garnett (John) and son-in-law Preston Reynolds.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). There will be no formal visitation or service at this time. Donations in his memory may be made towards the New Brunswick Lung Association.
