It is with broken hearts that the family of David “Dave” Murray Adams, beloved husband of 56 years to Vera (McGourty) Adams, announces his passing on January 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Saint John, NB, on June 28, 1949, he was the son of the late Murray and Jean (McPhail-Collison) Adams.
If there was a crowd, Dave was in it — and if there wasn’t, he was probably on his way to find one. Family sat at the very center of his world, and everything else happily revolved around them. He was a devoted sports fan whose loyalty knew no bounds: the Maple Leafs, the Blue Jays, and always, without hesitation, Team Canada. Wins were celebrated loudly, losses debated passionately, and every game was an event.
For Dave, friendships came easy, and he kept so many close. From his best friend and longtime work companion, Alfred LeBeau, to Nelson Getson, with whom he tackled countless projects, to his twice-weekly coffee outings with Leopold, there was always someone to meet, something to talk about, and a good laugh waiting to happen. He was endlessly social — the kind of person who could leave the house alone and come back with three new friends and a story to match.
His grandchildren lovingly dubbed him a “mall rat,” a title he wore with pride. A quick trip for one item with Dave was never quick. There were conversations to have, laps to walk, and people to run into — or meet for the very first time. Music was a constant companion, and Dave embraced life fully, loudly, and without apology. He was the life of every party, and if you flip through old photos, you won’t find many where he’s standing still — there’s a tongue sticking out, a goofy pose, or some unmistakable sign that Dave was enjoying the moment and wanted you to enjoy it too.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Saint John Regional Hospital Emergency Department, with special appreciation to Jessika, who cared for Dave on his final day. Everyone’s kindness, attentiveness, and willingness to go above and beyond made a difficult time far more bearable, and ensured Dave was treated with dignity, compassion, and care.
Dave will be missed beyond words by his family: his wife Vera; sons: Chris (Melissa) Adams, and Robert (Holly) Adams; grandchildren: Brodie Adams, Seth (Jessie) Adams, and Vincent Adams; great-grandchildren: Maddie, Harper, Josie, and Rowan; goddaughter and niece Brittany; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, Dave was predeceased by his sister Helen.
Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd., Saint John. In keeping with Dave’s wishes, there will be no formal services. For those who wish, donations to the Red Head Strays or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by family.
