Clytie Scott Obituary

With sadness, but in celebration of an extraordinary life, the Bell and Bowland families announce the peaceful passing of their beloved sister and aunt, Clytie Scott (Bowland) on March 1, 2026.

Clytie was born on February 28th, 1935, in St Martins to loving parents Maurice and Mary (McFarland) Bowland. She grew up on Mosher Hill in St Martins with her 5 brothers and sisters and attended St Martins Superior School.

As a young child Clytie demonstrated her strength and resilience by overcoming a childhood illness against all odds. Her will to survive would serve as a glimpse into the spirited and determined woman she would become.

Clytie became certified as a dental hygienist and her career took her to Florida; a leap of bravery and independence for a young, single woman in 1962. It was there she met and wed her husband, William. His career in the Air Force stationed them across North America from Texas, to Hawaii, to California all the way to Alaska. They welcomed their child Maurice and eventually came home to settle in St Martins.

Clytie was a quietly spiritual woman. She was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church and instrumental in the restoration of the Mosher Hill Cemetery. She later found fellowship at the Bains Corner United Church where she continued to practice her faith.

Clytie was truly a renaissance woman and talented in many facets. She was a skilled carpenter and took the lead in building her home at the top of Mosher Hill. She was a gifted artisan and self taught in the medium of stained glass, creating beautiful pieces that grace churches and homes in the community.  Clytie was an advocate for animals and especially enjoyed the company of her clever companions the crows. She loved working outside in the gardens and insisted on mowing her lawn into her 90’s on the old lawn tractor. Clytie’s straightforward demeanor and realistic outlook on life made her a natural teacher and confidante. A chat with her over a cup of tea was the perfect medicine to set things right in the world. Clytie’s wisdom was rich and boundless and will be missed.

Clytie is survived by her devoted sister Lynn (Larry) Bell; nieces and nephews in Canada: Edward, Donald, Mark, Lisa, James, Rodney, Brenda, Stephen, Stacey, Brian, Susan, and Shelia; nieces and nephews in West Virginia: Bob, Debbie, Bill, Kim and Randy; sister-in-law Doreen; as well as her dear friends, and many great nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband William and her son Maurice, her brothers Raymond (Doreen) and Ralph (Jane); sisters Rhoda (Hartley) and Leah (Ronald); sister-in-law Beulah; nieces: Heather, Cynthia, Aggie, Vickey and Sandy; and nephews Randy, Ricky and Anthony.

We take comfort knowing that Clytie has earned her wings and is onto her next big adventure.
