Chester Wilson Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family announce the peaceful passing of Chester Eldon Wilson on January 26, 2023, at Bobby’s Hospice, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Rexton, NB, on June 3, 1936 to the late Percy and Marjorie (McEachern) Wilson and was the loving husband of 18 years to his late wife, Jacqueline (Masson) Wilson.

Chester grew up in Mundleville, NB, moving to Saint John with his parents when he was 15 years old.  After high school, he became a Private in the Royal Canadian Army. After leaving the armed forces, he took courses on Welding and Pipefitting, joining with Local 213, the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters after completion.  He predominantly worked as a Welder though, as his skill set was so much stronger in that aspect.  He was a very hard worker and such a devoted employee, that he didn’t actually retire until he was 75 years of age.  He was an avid fisherman, who loved boating and being out on the water.  Chester and his wife, Jacqueline, greatly enjoyed towing their trailer to Grand Lake to go camping with the many friends they had made over the years at the various campgrounds.  He was very mechanically inclined and loved to tinker with cars.  He’d buy them, tinker with them, fix them up and then sell them to any interested party.  After retiring, Chester loved nothing better than to wake up in the morning and go and meet all of his friends at Tim Horton’s in Quispamsis for a few hours every day.  He was devoted to his family and his children and grandchildren were the lights of his life.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his sons, Christopher (Theresa) and Lawrence (Tanya); step-son, Paul Soucy; his daughter, Michelle (Roy) Saulnier Anderson; step-daughters, Brenda (Gary) Connell, Cheryl (David) Cowie, Nichole (David) Reynolds, Michelle (Ben) Reynolds and Karen (Arthur) Graham; his 5 grandchildren, Robert, Pacen, Regan, Ryder and Macey; brother-in-law, James Benson; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Chester was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been predeceased by his parents and 7 siblings; brothers, Cecil (Iris), Thomas (Jessie), and Ralph Wilson; sisters, Irene Wilson, Olive Spence, Bessie Shiels, Hilda (Burleigh) Dunn and Nella Benson.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424).  In keeping with Chester’s wishes, cremation will take place.  A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 11am at St. Joseph’s Cemetery with a reception to follow from 12-2 at the Jervis Bay Legion Branch.  For those who wish, memorial donations made in Chester’s memory to Bobby’s Hospice or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family.
