Charles "Fred" Frederick Shonaman

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Frederick “Fred” Shonaman at the Saint John Regional Hospital on September 15, 2023, with his loving family keeping vigil by his side.  He was born in Saint John, NB, on February 5, 1946, to the late Clarence and Louise (Lemoine) Shonaman and was the loving husband of 52 years to his late wife, Lorraine (Thompson) Shonaman.

Fred graduated from Vocational School and went directly to work for the Federal Government.  Starting as a Draftsman, he worked his way up to a Power Engineer and then Property Manager before retiring at the age of 50, after 30 years of service.  He was a peaceful man, whose patience and gentle nature were second to none.  Fred was a homebody, but he was very friendly and loved people. Fred was a MacGyver type man, who could do-it-yourself fix just about anything.  He was a lover of dad jokes, puttering, being around water, and watching science fiction shows and films.  He was a very kind man who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. 

He is survived by his son, Ian (Tanya); daughter, Karen (John); 2 grandsons, Zachariah and Marcus; his brothers, Robert (Pam) and Daryl (Pamie); his sister, Gloria (Donnie); as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  In addition to his parents and his wife Lorraine, he was predeceased by his brother, Michael. 

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424).  Fred liked to keep things simple, so to keep with his wishes, the family will welcome visitors from 11-2pm on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, for family and friends to gather; refreshments will be served.  Following, the family and all who wish to join, will proceed to burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, where Fred will rejoin Lorraine.  Memorial donations may be made in Fred’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
