Charles "Chuck" Craig Obituary

Today is a dark day as we announce the passing of Charles O. Craig (Chuck), which occurred on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Bobby’s Hospice, after a brave battle with lung cancer.

Chuck is lovingly remembered by his wife of 43 years, Louise (Picard), son Justin (Amanda), grandson Jackson, daughter Julie (Eric), granddaughters Gabrielle and Gracie, sister Elaine Whipple, nephew Bradley Whipple, sisters-in-law Danielle Levesque (Ray), Pauline Cote (Gilles), brothers-in-law Bertin Picard (France) and Jean Picard of Montreal. He was predeceased by his mother Ada Mae Porter (Noddin) in 2015, and his nephew Sean Whipple.

Chuck retired from the Bank of Canada in conjunction with the bank’s closure in 1997 after 20 years of service as a maintenance technician.

Chuck was a loyal fan of both the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs since his early childhood. He has watched countless televised games with his son, grandson, and many of Justin’s friends. Those Saturday gatherings will be missed by all of them.

Chuck was lucky enough to go on the trip of a lifetime to Cooperstown, NY with his good friend, Wayne Vaughan, to attend the 2016 Hall of Fame induction ceremonies for some of their famous players. Thanks Wayne!

Chuck was a great baseball player in his younger years. At age 16, he was scouted by the Boston Red Sox, but due to unfortunate circumstances that never happened. He was also a goalie for the NBTel hockey team in the 70’s.

He was known by his grandchildren as “Popi”. They adored him. Life won’t be the same without him.

Once diagnosed with lung cancer in March 2022, he took the shocking news with dignity. He lived the remainder of his life as a gift and made the best of it.

Everyone who had the chance to know Chuck can attest that he was a very kind, quiet, polite, and gentle human being. He was simply ‘The Best’.

As his partner in life, I will miss hearing him say “Thank you, Dear”

Many thanks to the professional teams at Bobby’s Hospice and Saint John Extra Mural.
