Cathy Lawlor Obituary

It is with broken, but full, hearts that the family of Cathy Lynn Lawlor (Sherwood) announce her passing. Cathy passed peacefully and comfortably at her home on Friday, April 30th, 2021, surrounded by her loved ones and best friend/dog Harley.

Cathy was born in Saint John, on February 23rd, 1967 to her loving, proud parents Ron and Linda Sherwood of Otter Lake. From that day on, the world would be a better place. She spent her younger years camping, playing, and making lifelong memories with her parents and two younger siblings Karen Armstrong (Chris) of Baxters Corner & Peter Sherwood (Lisa) of Willow Grove. Both of whom she loved dearly. Cathy was a true empath and had many friends growing up, caring deeply and truly for anyone and everyone in her life. There was one special friend in particular, Suzanne, who has remained by her side since they were children.

Cathy has always been a very caring, compassionate person, it was only fitting that she made a career out of her love for helping others. She studied at Acadia University, graduating with her Bachelor of Science, then continuing with her studies at NBCCSJ to graduate as a Respiratory Therapist. For many years, she worked as a Respiratory Therapist at the Saint John Regional Hospital, eventually specializing as a Polysomnographer in the Sleep Lab. Throughout her career, she had MANY co-workers, turned good friends, but a special few became lifelong besties who she commonly referred to as her “Fab Five”. Sandra, Annette, Holly, Joanne, and Kendra hold a special place in her heart.

At a party, on her 24th birthday, mutual friends introduced Cathy to a man named David, little did she know that night she had met her soulmate (although she often said she knew right away). Dave and Cathy lived a wonderful, full life together, often travelling, camping, and spending time at their happy place, their trailer in St. Andrews, NB. They were happily married for 28 strong years and raised two beautiful daughters together.

Cathy had many titles, Daughter, Wife, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, Friend and Co-Worker, but her favourite title of all was “Mother”. She was simply born to be a mom and gave her heart and soul into raising her two strong, independent daughters, Erin (Brandon) of Willow Grove and Carolyn (Kayden) of Saint John. Her girls were her pride and joy and there was not anything she would not give for them. Cathy had a deep love for “her boys” Brandon & Kayden, loving, mothering and “Smothering” them like her own sons since the day they entered her life.

She was an animal lover, cherishing her best buddy Harley, along with her “Grand-dogs” Lexi and Bentley. Cathy very much looked forward to someday becoming a grandmother “G-Ma” (because she was much too hip to be Grandma). She may be in heaven, but her love for her future grandchildren will prevail.

Cathy lit up any room that she entered, she was known for her beautiful smile, positive attitude, and selfless ways. She was the person everyone called first with good news, bad news or simply just to chat. She gave the BEST advice, warm hugs, cozy knit blankets, fresh baked goods, and there was not a craft she could not handle. She had an amazing sense of humour and could lighten any mood by cracking jokes and always looking at the bright side. Cathy considered herself blessed to grow up very close to her family, sometimes referred to as “The family Ambassador”. Along with the above mentioned, she leaves behind her sisters-in-law Phyllis Morrell (Todd), Patti Kyle (Bruce) of Saint John and many beloved Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and friends.

Cathy was predeceased by her infant sister Susan Sherwood and Mother and Father in-law, Bruce & Emily Lawlor.

If one thing rang true to the end, Cathy was confident that she lived a good, happy, and full life. Her only request was that she be lifted and celebrated for the time that she did have, rather than mourned for the time that she has lost. Her family kindly asks that you please feel free to share your stories and memories in the guestbook section.

Cathy’s family encourages and invites you to celebrate her with them during public visitation hours being held at Fundy Funeral Home on: Tuesday May 4th, 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. & 6 p.m. – 8 p.m and Wednesday May 5th , 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, a private Celebration of Cathy’s life service will be held at the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, May 6th at 10:00 a.m by invitation only.
