Catherine "Cathy" Hamer Obituary

Catherine Rose Hamer (née Lowe)

September 3, 1952 – November 11, 2025

With deep love and sadness, the family of Catherine “Cathy” Rose Hamer announces her passing on November 11, 2025, at the age of 73. A long-time resident of Quispamsis, most recently residing in Saint Andrews, Cathy lived her life with creativity, generosity, and an enduring passion for her craft and her community.

A hairstylist for 50 years, Cathy was an entrepreneur at heart. She owned and operated Hair-Tistic for 25 years, spent a decade sharing her expertise as an educator with Redken, and most recently founded Wigs on Wheels, helping those in need find confidence and comfort through hair alternatives.

Cathy had a rare gift for connection. She quickly became a pillar in every community she joined, offering hair consultations wherever inspiration struck — even in the grocery store aisle. She volunteered her time and talents with the Saint John Theatre Company as the resident stylist and wig specialist, crafting imaginative looks for countless productions. She also dedicated herself to Look Good Feel Better, helping people facing cancer feel like themselves again.

One of Cathy’s greatest joys was her garden. She spent countless hours nurturing her flowers and veggies while waging a good-natured battle against the determined deer of Saint Andrews.  Cathy found love with Lloyd Soble, her partner in cribbage and in life. Together, they shared their “happy place” in Goshen — gardening, picking blueberries, and chasing away the squirrels.

Cathy’s loss leaves an echo that will never fade from the memories of her children Jessica and Adrian (Jill), and her cherished grandson Jacob. She is survived by her mother Gloria Lowe, who was her heart’s home and a constant calming presence. Her bright spirit lives on in the hearts of her dear siblings Dale (Marie), Eric (Donna), Loraine (Joe), and Paul (Theresa), as well as her beloved nieces and nephews — Ashley, Lisa (Jesse), Brian (Lisa), Sara (Eddie), and Alize (Brett). She was predeceased by her father, Donald Lowe, who she deeply missed.

Cathy will also be fondly remembered by her many close friends, whose lives she brightened with her laughter, authenticity, and unwavering kindness.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff, nurses and doctors at the Emergency Department, ICU and Oncology Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, and a special thanks to Dr. Maggie McGuire.

A celebration of Cathy’s life will be held at the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Please wear your brightest colors as a tribute to her vibrant life.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Charlotte County Cancer.
