It is with heavy hearts that the family of Catherine Susan Smith announces her peaceful passing on November 29, 2025, at the Kingsway Care Centre, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Saint John, NB, on October 29, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Kathleen (Comeau) Northrup.
Beloved mother, whose independent spirit, kind heart, and wonderful sense of humour touched everyone who knew her. She lived life on her own terms—strong, caring, and always ready to lift others with a smile or a perfectly timed joke.
She was a devoted mother, a loyal friend, and the steady, gentle presence that held our family together. Her kindness was effortless, her love unconditional, and her laughter unforgettable.
Though we will miss her dearly, we are grateful for the memories, the lessons, and the love she leaves behind. Her spirit will continue to guide us, and her humour will echo in our hearts forever.
May she rest in peace, knowing she made this world a better, brighter place.
Catherine is survived by her son Craig (Anna) Smith; grandsons: Massimo & Marco; siblings: Karen Mills, Linda Turner, Patricia Fullerton, Debbie Anderson, Stephen Northrup, and Chris Northrup; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Catherine was predeceased by her son Andrew Blair Smith, and brothers Malcolm Northrup and Wayne Northrup.
Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd., Saint John, NB (506-646-2424). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at 11AM, in Stella Maris Church . Burial will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date.
