Catherine Michaelson

It is with broken hearts that the family of Catherine Michaelson announces her passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday, June 27, 2026. Born in Saint John on July 19, 1956, she was the beloved daughter of the late Jerome and Marie (Nee. Cripps) Richard.

If you knew Cathy, you knew her family was her whole world. She was the kind of person who would give you her last dollar if you needed it. She put everyone else before herself and worked hard to make sure her family was always cared for. A devoted grandmother, she treasured each of her grandchildren, sharing a particularly special bond with all of them. She was the family’s biggest supporter, greatest cheerleader, and the one who kept everyone connected.

Cathy had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh. She enjoyed relaxing with TV game shows. True crime and true story programs. She also loved going out for a good meal, not just for the food but for the experience and the time spent with those she loved. She enjoyed going for drives and never left home for long without thinking of her beloved dog, Phoebe, who was more than a pet; she was family.

Cathy leaves behind the love of her life for the past 53 years, Rick; children Richard, Scott (Line), Randy, Jason (Amanda) and Lisa (Jimmy); grandchildren Shawn (Ashley), Christopher and Bailey; brothers Trevor (Shawna) and Wayne (Cindy); as well as her favourite companion and best friend, her dog Phoebe.

Besides her parents, Cathy was predeceased by her sister, Bonnie Richard.

In keeping with Catherine’s wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date. For those wishing to honour Cathy’s memory, donations can be made to the Saint John SPCA.
