Carlos Freeman Obituary

The family of Carlos Dellplain Freeman is sad to announce his passing on Monday, January 26, 2026 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born in Caledonia, Queen’s County, NS, youngest child of Roy C. Freeman and Muriel B.(nee Parker) Freeman of Caledonia and was predeceased by his parents and his sister Shirley E.
Harris (ON) and Bryon C. Freeman (BC). In 1959, he married the former Joan Anne Murphy, daughter of Raymond and Anne Murphy of Bathurst

Carlos was a graduate of Acadia University, receiving his BSc in 1953. Upon graduating, he was employed as a Mill Chemist in Bathurst and later as pulp mill management in Ontario and Quebec before returning to UNB to pursue a B.Ed. He taught at Bathurst High School and Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School in Cornwall, ON. He moved to Saint John as an instructor for the Engineering Technology Department at the New Brunswick Community College. Carlos later became the Head of the Department of Chemical, Industrial Instrumentation Technologies, Electrical and Firefighting, where he was instrumental in obtaining national recognition for the Chemical Engineering and Industrial Control Engineering Technologies programs.

Carlos loved travelling, curling and golf. In 2020, he moved to Carleton Hall at Shannex, Milledgeville where he found his tribe. He enjoyed in participating in many activities, spending his time at Bingo, Left-Right and Centre and challenging anyone to a game of Cribbage. With his circle of friends, he kept very busy. Carlos spoke highly of the people who worked so diligently to make Carleton a home and they became his extended family.

He is survived by his daughter Cynthia (Kevin King) as well as his grandchildren Katelyn (JeffreyWalsh), Katrina (Dakota Murray) and Sawyer (Kate Melanson). He was so proud of not only his grandchildren but of his great-grandchildren Payton King-Burns, Easton and Callum Walsh and was excited about his future grandbaby, Arthur King. They will miss their “Bampy”.

The family would like to express our thanks to the staff and doctors of 5CNorth for their excellent care during his time there and to the nursing staff and doctors of the Palliative Care unit for their kindness, wonderful care and ability to make this transition a positive and healing experience.

As per Carlos’ wishes there will be no visiting or service. Arrangements are being made by Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB, E2J 2G3; (506)646-2424. Internment will be in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
