Bruce McFarlane

The death of Mr. Charles William Bruce McFarlane, husband of the late Emily (Frame) Mc Farlane, occurred on Friday, September 6, 2019 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Bruce was born in Edmonton, Alberta on September 1, 1934 to the late William and Helen (MacMullin) McFarlane.

A graduate of Civil Engineering at the University of New Brunswick Fredericton, and later of Computer Engineering at McGill University. Bruce was employed by Montreal Prestressed Concrete in Montreal, Boeing Computer Service in Seattle, and finally operated his own computer consulting business Greenbelt Systems Ltd. in New Brunswick.

Bruce was an avid outdoorsman and adventurist with a true frontier spirit. Drift boating the swift and wild rivers of the Pacific Northwest for winter steelhead. Extended summer tent camping trips along the Alaska Highway to the far North of the Yukon tundra. Bruce also completed several cross-Canada, cross-United States road trips. All activities he shared closely with his immediate and extended family and close friends.

Bruce was a tireless reader and consumed countless hours in the pages of Scientific American, National Geographic and the entire volumes of the Encyclopedia Britannica. Among other accomplishments, Bruce created his own computer language, was a fluent self-taught French speaker and a highly skilled mathematician and physicist.

Bruce is survived by his Brother; Jim Mc Farlane, Three Sons; Donald, 59 Charles, 56 and Robert, 52. His Grandchildren; William, 29  Kelsi, 26 Olivia, 24 Ian, 20 Kalle, 17 Markus, 12 His Great Grandson; Lucan McFarlane, 2.

Along with his wife and parents, Bruce is predeceased by his daughter in-law Takako Oshima McFarlane, 49  late wife of his son Charles and Grandson Ian.

Our family would like to acknowledge and give thanks to the fabulous staff and volunteers of Kingsway Care Center for their kindness and compassion shown to Bruce throughout the last two years.

Arrangements entrusted to the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). A memorial service will be held at the Kingsway Care Centre Chapel, 8 Squire Drive, Quispamsis on Wednesday, September 11th at 3:00 PM.
