Brian Hersey Obituary

It is with heavy hearts the family of Brian Gary Hersey announce his peaceful passing on June 27, 2026, at Bobby’s Hospice after Brian courageously and with great strength fought multiple illnesses for the last year and a half.

Brian was born November 15, 1962, to the late Bradford and Bernadette (Clancy) Hersey in Saint John, NB.

Brian ran his own business, Brian’s Auto Shine, for many years and most recently was employed with Costco Saint John. One thing no one could take away from Brian was his amazing work ethic.

Brian was a passionate Toronto Maple Leaf’s fan and loved anything hockey. He also loved to watch Nascar and Formula 1 racing. He loved to read and did a fair amount of that when he had the time. Brian was happiest when he was home with Darlene and Mickey and could put his feet up.

In the past year, Brian had openly embraced his spirituality, thanks to his amazing friend, Rev. Paul Carline from the Bloomfield Baptist Church. Rev. Carline helped Brian through many difficult times during his lengthy illness.

He leaves behind his loving wife Darlene Hersey (Abbott), his loving and loyal brother David Hersey (Verna); his special niece Angela Craft (Andrew) and their four girls, Lily, Eve, Julia and Audrey (Brian called them his girls); cousin Patti Squire; close friends Johnnie Spence, Dooley Thompson, Greg Barry, Cathy and Wayne Anderson and Mike Arsenault, Susan Pridham, Robert and Nicole Knox and Max Sentner; nieces, nephews, cousins; brothers and sisters-in-law. Brian also leaves behind his fur baby Micky who was daddy’s boy.

Besides his parents, Brian was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law Arthur and Elsie Abbott whom he truly loved; his uncle Les and aunt June Squire; his cousin Allan Squire; his brother-in-law Thomas Ridgley (Rose Marie). Tom just passed away June 3, 2026. Brother-in-law Doug MacLean and his adored niece Lori MacLean.

Brian had requested there be no visitation or service. For those who wish, donations in his memory may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, Carma (Cat Rescue Maritimes), Saint John Chapter or to a charity of your choice.

Rest easy Brian, you are free now.

The family wishes to express their thanks to all those who played a role in looking after Brian during his long medical journey and extensive hospital stays. A huge thank you to Bobby’s Hospice staff and volunteers for the love and kindness shown to Brian and to his family.
