Bonnie Gibbs Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Bonnie Mae (Thomas) Gibbs on July 14, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital with the love of her family surrounding her.  She was born in Chatham, ON, on May 31, 1947, to the late Stanley and Shirley (Kilbride) Thomas.

Bonnie worked as a Bank Teller with the Bank of Montreal and then moved on to work with TD Canada Trust. After the birth of Tom, the youngest, she loved being able to stay at home and focus on raising her family. She enjoyed attending their school events and teaching them to appreciate the little things in life. She loved to be near the water, and when she joined Bonnie in Red Deer, AB, the mountains brought her peace. She loved to garden, both flowers and vegetables, always had a collection of indoor plants, and appreciated the beauty of her surroundings.  Her faith sustained her through many difficult times, and she was a long-time member of St. Mary’s and St. Bartholomew’s Anglican church.  She always had a twinkle in her eye, and she adored being with her family more than anything.   She will be deeply missed.

Bonnie is survived by her children, Tom, Bonnie Sue Hunt and Terri Lynn (Chris) Fitz; her adored grandchildren, Kim (Taylor Turner), and Rebecca Fitz; her brother, Ron (Cathy) Thomas; as well as extended family and many friends.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by the father of their children, Gordon Gibbs and her brother, Sonny Thomas.

There are not enough words to express the gratitude the family has for all the caregivers from Homecare by Design, the doctors, nurses, and medical staff, especially Dr Nessa Gogan and everyone in the Dialysis unit, who have been a part of Bonnie’s care over the last 5 years. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424).  In keeping with Bonnie’s wishes, cremation will take place.  Visitation and funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s and St. Bartholomew’s Church, with visitation on Tuesday, August 5th from 6 pm to 8 pm. The funeral service will take place on August 6th at 11 am ADT with a reception to follow. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed and can be viewed at the following website: www.smsbchurch.com. Burial will take place in North Bay, Ontario, in the fall.

For those who wish, memorial donations in her memory to the Lunch Connection, Inner City Youth Ministry or to the Mission Centre at the SMSB Church would be appreciated by her family.
