The death of Elizabeth Ann “Betty” MacVicar, wife of the late Gordon MacVicar, occurred at Turnbull Nursing Home on Friday, October 4th, 2019. Betty was the daughter of the late Graham and Lida (McGeehan) Gibson. She attended Cornerstone Baptist Church and St. Mary & St. Bartholomew’s Church and she loved God and her family.
A former teacher, Betty taught in Saint John, Moncton and Ste. Rose, Quebec. She also worked in the children’s dept. at the Saint John Public Library. She had been a Beaver Leader and was also one of the founding members of the Saint John East Food Bank where she had served on the board as well as a volunteer. She was also a member of the hospital auxiliary.
Betty is survived by her son Andrew MacVicar (Lia) and daughter Amy MacVicar along with her grandchildren Mercedes, Bronwyn, Bryson, Matthew, Scarlett and Vaughn; nieces Jillian Wilkins (Greg) and their daughter Kaitlin and Caryn Affleck (Don) as well as several cousins. Besides her parents and husband, Betty was predeceased by her son Kevin MacVicar (Charity) and sister Dianne Sutherland.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Monday, October 7th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place from the Fundy Funeral Home chapel on Tuesday, October 8th at 11 a.m. followed by an interment at Fernhill Cemetery. Betty would like those who wish to make donations to Romero House, Saint John East Food Bank or to the Salvation Army.
