Bessie Marlene Collins

It is with broken hearts that the family of Bessie Marlene Collins, beloved partner of the late Darrell Richards, announces her passing on May 18, 2025, in Saint John, NB. Born in Sussex, NB, on April 20, 1953, she was the daughter of Louise Mitchell and the late Don Mitchell.

Bessie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who brought joy to her family through her unwavering support, love and selflessness. She always cared for others first before herself. Bessie shared a beautiful life with her soul mate, Darrell, and together they built a foundation of love and laughter that touched the lives of all who knew them and helped carry her through the tragedy of losing him. Her family will deeply cherish the memories of trips to the casino, where she would often be accompanied by her loved ones. 

Her life was filled with adventure and warmth. From trips to the camp where moose hunting and fishing derbies created lifelong long memories to watching her husbands band play with friends. Her green thumb brought beauty to her home and gardens, and her cooking was a highlight of any gathering especially during moose season.

Bessie was the heart of family gatherings, where laughter and love flowed freely. Her family will deeply miss her, but her spirit and legacy will live on forever.

Along with her mother Louise, Bessie will be missed by her children: Kirk Collins (Krista), Dan Collins (Kelsey Bailey), Darrell Jr. Collins (Jennifer Newman); grandchildren: Rayne Collins (Vincente Phillips), Summer Collins, Skye Collins, River Collins, Stephen McGraw (Jennifer Bodaly), Dakota Collins, and Melissa James (Dustin); great grandchildren: Tyson, Hayden, MacKenzie, Hunter, Elijah, and Sadie; siblings: Donna Young, Pam Renouf (Wilfred), and Richard Mitchell (Kariann); extended sisters: Sharon, Sandra, and Irene (Sis); her brothers and sisters in law and their spouses, especially Keith Richards (Tanya) who were always next door; as well as many nieces and nephews, and her canine companion Lady Bug.

Besides her loving partner of 42 years, Darrell, and her father, Don, Bessie was predeceased by her stepfather Rick Ackerly, grandson Kurtis McGraw, and sisters Bonnie Mitchell and Joanne Mitchell.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd., Saint John, NB. A private interment for family will take place at a later date at Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
