MALONEY, BERNARD A. - After a period of failing health, Mr. Bernard A. Maloney, age 77, husband of Marie E. (Finnigan) Maloney, passed away peacefully at his home in Belmont on Tuesday, February 4, 1997. Born in Saint John he was the son of the late Alfred and Gladys (Goodline) Maloney. Mr. Maloney was employed by the DVA Hospital as a heating plant engineer for 25 years and worked 2 years in Labrador, before his retirement in 1977. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces during World War ll in the first Brighton Fortress Royal Canadian Engineers. He served for seven years both in Canada and the United Kingdom. He was a member of the Dr. Collin's TVS Branch of Legion for 36 years. Mr. Maloney was very involved in community affairs. He was a long time member, and past board member, of the KBM Outing Association. He was an active member of the Queen of peace Prayers Group. In recent years, he was a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels Program and drove the Legion Wheelchair Van.

Besides his wife, Mr. Maloney is survived by four sons, Robert (Pam) or Charlottetown, PEI, Leo (Denise) of Saint John West, Ron (Anne) of Quispamsis, Dr, Gerald ( Colleen) of Saint John, six daughters, Theresa (Leroy) Hughson of Fredericton, NB, Betty Ann (Jack) Winchester of East Saint John, Linda (Bruce) Webb of Morna, Mary Lou (Alden) Vienneau of Saint John West, Maureen (Don) Gagnon of Walkerton, Ont. And Cathleen (Al) Sunderman of Ham Lake, Minnesota, USA. He is also survived by one brother, Maurice (Anne Marie) of Martinon and five sisters Marguerite (Duncan) Davidson of East Saint John, Mary (Clovis) Benoit of Saint John West, Eileen Surette of Grand Bay, Dorothy Swain of Ottawa, Ont., and Geraldine (William) Donovan of Halifax, NS, 40 Grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Maloney is predeceased by a brother, Vincent, October 1996.

Arrangements entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, (646- 2424). Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, 11 a.m., St. Augustine's. Friends and family are welcome at the funeral home Wednesday 7-9 and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Matthews Church Building Fund or charity of the donor's choice.
