Bella M. Matheson

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Bella Marie (Gautreau) Matheson, which occurred on Saturday, August 9th, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  Born on January 21st, 1947, in Beaverbrook, NB, she is the daughter of the late Adolphe and Philomene (Richard) Gautreau.  Bella worked as a Cook at Turnbull Nursing Home for many years before retirement.  She had a passion for gardening and cooking and she loved to go yardsaling and fishing.  Family was most important to her and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.   

Bella is survived by her loving and devoted husband Walter of 35 years; daughters Lisa Hooper (Bill Bawn) of Rothesay, Paula Dunn of Saint John, April McCullough of Saint John; son Robert McLaughlin (Marlene) of Rothesay; step-daughter Christine Carpenter of Alberta; step-son Walter Matheson Jr. (Lisa) of Ontario; sister Louise Govereau of Ontario; grandchildren Ronald (Megan), Joshua, Nicholas, Miranda (Nick), Alex, Ella and Sara (Cole); many great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.  Along with her parents, Bella was predeceased by her infant son Bruce, grandson Ryan, sons-in-law Al Dunn and Brian McCullough, siblings Doreen, David and Alyre and step-son Harvey.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424).  A Memorial Service will take place in the Fundy chapel on Thursday, August 14th at 10 a.m.  Donations in memory of Bella may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
