Barbara Woollven Obituary

CELEBRATION OF LIFE

You are invited to come and celebrate Barb’s life with John, Sarah, and her extended family at Portland United Church, 50 Newport Crescent on Saturday, June 18th, 2022 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Leave sadness at the door and bring your stories, your laughs, and happiness to share with each other. Barb’s life was filled with music and there will be a musical presentation to honour her memory.

Barbara (Barb) Woollven passed away unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital on August 27th, 2021, after a short illness. Born in Saint John, NB in 1949, she was the daughter of the late Stewart and Dorothy Smith. She is survived by her husband John and daughter Sarah; brother Douglas Smith (Judi) of Dartmouth, NS; nephews Chris Smith (Emily) of Brisbane, Australia and their children Ethan and Ella; Andrew Smith (Charlotte) of Dartmouth, NS and their children Noah and Chelsea; and her in-laws Ian and Dympna Gethin of Cornwall, England and their family.

Barb grew up in Brookville and attended local schools, graduating from Simonds High. After school she took a business course and worked for a number of years for NB Tel, before retiring to care for her family.

She was a lifelong member of the United Church of Canada, most recently Silver Falls United Church, and sang with a beautiful alto voice in a number of church choirs and other local choirs, including the “Big Choir” at the Imperial Theatre each year. She was also an excellent pianist and for a number of years she  loved to accompany young singers at the New Brunswick Music Festival and the Empty Stocking fund, as well as playing at numerous weddings.

Donations in Barb’s memory may be made to The Cerebral Palsy Foundation (Saint John) Inc. or other charity of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424). At Barb’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. There will be a private interment of her ashes at a later date.
