Arthur James Skanes

It is with broken hearts that the family of Arthur James Skanes announce his passing. Arthur passed peacefully and comfortably at his home on June 29, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Born March 27, 1948 in Newfoundland, he was the son of the late William and Hope (Harvey) Skanes.

Art spent several years working at Dennison Mines as a Mill Operator. After retirement, he enjoyed volunteering his time in the Palliative Care Unit and was a member of the Citizens on Patrol in Elliot Lake, Ontario. He enjoyed spending time with his family and going for long walks with his canine companion Cody. Art loved to golf and was a dedicated fan of the Montreal Canadiens.

Art had a way of winning anyone’s heart over in a short amount of time. He was a kind and loving man who cherished his family more than anything. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Heather King; sons Keith of Alberta, Craig (Tanya) of Nerepis, Tommy of Nerepis, Kyle of Alberta; daughters Katherine (Scott) Bloom of Alberta, Angela (Mandi) King of Nerepis; brothers David (Gail) of Brampton, Ontario, Al (Lorna) of Elliot Lake, Ontario, Bob (Cora) of Sudbury, Glen of Alberta; cherished grandchildren Kelsey, Jessie, Emally, Natasha, Lacey, Larissa, Tristan, Noah and great-grandchildren Ariya, Avery, Lillian, Dimitri along with several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Art was predeceased by his first wife Francine and his canine companion Cody.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home (646-2424). A private family celebration of life will be held. Donations in Art’s memory may be made towards Bobby’s Hospice, Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
