With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Ernie Melanson on April 16th, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on August 2, 1954, a son of the late Harold and Thelma (Harris) Melanson; Ernie was an exceptional and devoted husband, father, grandfather and best friend. Along with his devoted wife Kim (Page) Melanson, Ernie is survived by his children Katie Delaney (Steve) and Erin Melanson (Matt); beloved grandchildren Olivia, Abby, Ellie and sister Zelda Melanson (Kevin). In addition to his parents, Ernie was pre-deceased by his grandparents Annie and William Melanson. Throughout his life, Ernie worked as a Human Service Counsellor with the Dr. Roberts Hospital, and later for the Government.
Ernie was an easy-going, family-oriented man who loved the simple things in life, including taking care of his family and friends. He especially adored spending time with his beloved grandchildren, and they equally worshipped his kind and gentle nature. He was very proud of his family; he was generous, kind, humorous and loving. Ernie was an avid sports fan, strongly supported the Saint John Sea Dogs, Boston Red Sox, and spent summers golfing at the Hampton Golf and Country Club. He was a collector of hockey cards and frequently could be found at Fundy Coin, conversing with good friends Steve and Jim. He always enjoyed taking weekend trips to the States with Kim and was content to take pleasure in life’s daily blessings. He will forever be in our thoughts and hearts, and his family will cherish and carry his memory.
Special thanks to the Saint John Regional Hospital, especially the ICU staff for their exceptional care provided throughout Ernie’s stay.
Although there will be no visitation, family and friends are welcome to attend the funeral service, which will be held on Thursday, April 19th at 2:00 pm, from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel, reception to follow. For those who wish, remembrances to the SJRH Foundation, or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424). Online condolences may be placed at www.fundyfuneralhome.com
