Anita Joan Smith

It is with great sadness that the family of Anita Joan Smith announce her passing which occurred at Rocmaura Nursing Home on Thursday, January 1, 2026, surrounded by her family. Anita was born in Nowlanville, NB and was the daughter of the late Bernard and Catherine (nee. Ahern) Lynch.

Anita is survived by daughters Suzanne and Laurie (John); three granddaughters: Carolyn (Brett), Sarah (Andrew), and Julia (Michael); 4 great-grandchildren: Josie, Tate, Nash, and Brooklyn; as well as many nieces and nephews. 

Besides her parents, Anita was predeceased by her husband of 69 years Albert; brothers: Joseph (Alice), Melvin (Nelida), John (Gladys), Reggie (Edie), Leo (Yvonne); sister Mary McDonnell (John); and son-in-law Dan Murray. Anita is the last surviving member of her family.

Anita was a schoolteacher by profession, ending her 22-year career at St. Peters Girls school in Saint John.

The family would like to thank the staff at Rocmaura for their care and compassion while Anita was in their care.

In respecting Anita’s wishes cremation has taken place with a private family service to take place at a later date.
