Alton Paige Obituary

With heavy hearts but grateful for a life well lived, the family of Alton (Al) Edward Paige announces his passing on June 11, 2026, at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Born in Richmond, Quebec, on February 20, 1930, Alton was the beloved son of the late Arthur and Grace (Smith) Paige.

Alton was predeceased by the love of his life Joan (2021). Dad’s passing brings a quiet sense of peace, as he is now reunited with Mom. Not a day passed in the last 5 years that he did not think of her, she remained forever in his heart. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Bruce (Christine) Paige, Brian Paige (Ruthie McConnell), and David Paige; his daughter, Penny (Lorie) Mallett; his cherished grandchildren, Angela, Alison, Michael, William, Zachary, Aaron, Alana, Kyle, Tara, and Brandon; his great-grandchildren, Justin, Korinne, Corvis, Joshua, Rey, and Charlee; and his great-great-grandchildren, Alexander & Haven. He was especially excited to welcome another great-great-grandchild in the fall. Alton will also be deeply missed by his chosen family, Keith and Marilyn Penney and their family. He will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews across Canada, England and Scotland. He is also survived by brother-in-law Charles Kerr and sister-in-law Helena Schofield

Alton proudly served his country in the Canadian Army for 26 years. Following his military retirement, he worked for Canada Post and then Expert Delivery before eventually enjoying a well-earned retirement. A lifelong enthusiast of model trains, Alton began his collection in 1952 and remained passionate about the hobby throughout his life. He loved spending time on the dance floor, especially square dancing with family and friends. He was also a member of the Loyalist City Amateur Radio Club. His love for jigsaw puzzles was evident when the family embarked on a 3 summer project ending with the completion of an 18000 piece puzzle, which hangs proudly “at the cottage."

Family was at the center of Alton's life. He was a devoted father not only to his own children but also to the many foster children he welcomed into his home over the years. Some of his happiest moments were spent relaxing at the family cottage on Washademoak Lake, where he enjoyed the company of family and friends and created countless treasured memories.

Besides his parents, Alton was predeceased by his brother, Ronald Paige, and his sisters, Lois Zwicker, Helen Gallup, and Dorothy Kerr. Alton was the last serving member of his immediate family.
