Allan Rector Obituary

Allan Basil Rector husband of Pauline (Long) has passed away at the Loch Lomond Villa on Monday, June 09th, 2025 after failing health.  Dad was born May 28, 1933, in Hanford Brook, St. Martins Parish, NB but after losing his father at the early age of 8, his family moved to Wood Lake NB.  In order to receive an education, Dad boarded with a family in St. Martins NB where he attended school and often told stories of his time there.

Dad met our beautiful mother at a dance hall at Dolan Lake where many years later they made their home on Mabee Road behind Dolan Lake.  They continued dancing until they were in their 80's.   Dad had many jobs throughout his life – delivered telegrams in the '40's, was an ice delivery man before refrigerators were common, he was a Fuller Brush salesman for many years and then joined the Saint John Dry Dock, where he retired after working on the Frigate Program in 1996.

Dad was of the adage “he who has the most toys when he dies, wins”.  He loved the outdoors - snowmobiling, ATVing, fishing and hunting and most of all, a beer with the boys. He was a member of the Fundy Trail Riders and worked diligently at keeping trails clean and safe.

Besides his wife Polly of 72 years, he is survived by his daughter Jackie (Hamilton) and son Kim (Huguette) both of Saint John, his daughter Cindy (Ratcliffe) of Alberta and his brother Earl of Kingston, ON.  He was fortunate to have celebrated 5 generations of children starting with 10 grandchildren – Tony (Chantal), Natasha, Andrew (Debra), Jacinda, Billie Jo, Shyanne, Kimberley, Donnie, Adam and Brandon; 16 great grandchildren – Jordan, Dylan, Abbey, Jonah, Sam, Benjamin, Payton, Owen, Naithan, Gavin, Avery, Ayden, Alice, Devon, Jenna and Kaylee and 3 great- great Grandchildren.  Besides his parents, Blanche (Buchanan) and Basil, he was predeceased by his sons Murray (1978) and Jimmy (2020), his sisters Maxine (Kirkpatrick), and Josephine (Bacon) along with his treasured grandson Jared, brothers-in-law, James Kirkpatrick and Ralph Bacon, sister-in-law Roberta (Evans).

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424).  Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 14th from 12 to 2 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service in the Fundy chapel beginning at 2 p.m.  Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date.   Dad spent his last few months at the Village (Willow House) where the staff treated him with respect and genuine affection.  Our sincere thanks to all who were so kind and thoughtful during his stay.
