Alexander Guthrie Obituary

It is with broken hearts and great sadness that our family announces the passing of Alexander James Guthrie which occurred suddenly at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at the age of 22.

Alex was a gentle soul that touched the lives of many. Growing up, Alex spent time at his grandparent's farm in Hampton, NB. One of the first things he always wanted to know was if there were “any frozen cookies, Nana?” He spent time playing with his buddy, Jake the dog, gardening and feeding the chickens. One of his favourite memories was travelling to Fundy National Park with his maternal grandparents. They enjoyed the days spending time at Hopewell Rocks, watching old TV shows and making a movie in the park. Alex enjoyed many activities, biking, basketball, snowboarding and playing video games. Alex and his friend Marcus were like brothers growing up. They had so many memories it was hard to pick just one. Days spent at the cottage, swimming, kayaking, canoeing and having smores around the campfire. Prince Edward Island was our favourite place to travel with the boys, playing laser tag, paintball, going to the water park and other attractions and of course every night ended with a COWS ice cream! As a family our last special memory was a trip to Old Orchard Beach. We had so much fun playing in the waves with our boogie boards. Alex and his girlfriend, Amy, spent so much time together over the last several years, listening to music, watching their favourite shows, especially Trailer Park Boys and cuddling with Diesel the dog. Alex always looked forward to a visit from Mom, especially if it meant homemade taco salad and ice cream cake. As of late, Alex loved camping, hiking and spending time in nature. My most cherished recent memory was a hike on Green Head trail with Alex and Diesel this past Mother’s Day, we had many laughs! He made it a very special day filled with love.

Music was a huge part of Alex’s life, we spent many hours singing together with Alex and Amy laughing at my dance moves. Alex communicated everything he was feeling to me through his favourite songs when he couldn’t find the words. He absolutely loved Classified and Juice WRLD. He also enjoyed making his own beats and freestyles, Re$Smoke, 420, Seven and 11.

Alex was raised by his loving parents, Melissa and Darren. He is survived by his father, Michael, maternal grandparents “Nana and Grampy down the street”, Bonnie and John, paternal grandparents, “Nana and Grampy Farm”, MaryAnn and David, his long-time girlfriend, Amy, an aunt and uncle, cousins and extended family. Many special friends, Marcus, Jen, Ronald, Julie and his loyal canine companion, Diesel and feline companions, Sadie and Rolo.

He was predeceased by his maternal great-grandmother, Hazel, paternal great-grandparents, Herbert and Anna, great aunts Judy and Shirley, a very special friend, Matthew, animal friends, Jake and Holly.

Under the care of Fundy Funeral Home Cremation took place on Sunday, June 5th with a private celebration of life as per his final wishes. He will be laid to rest at the Cedar Hill Extension columbarium niches later this year.

Our family would like to thank the SICU department, nurses Danielle and Joel, orthopedic surgery and nephrology services at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Memorial donations towards CMHA-NB – SJ, Moms Stop The Harm or CARMA SJ would be appreciated.
